A&E balance economic goals with environmental responsibilities through its Threads of Sustainability initiative.

Mt. Holly, N.C., April 22, 2010 -- In honor of Earth Day 2010, American & Efird pledges to continue its global commitment to sustainability through its ten Threads of Sustainability, a hallmark of the international textile manufacturer’s Eco-Driven™ program.

A&E has long since recognized that incorporating environmental sustainability in operations and the global supply chain is crucial to meeting expectations of customers and stakeholders. As such, the company has enacted the Threads of Sustainability as a way to bring the same innovation, creation and delivery for sustainable practices that it brings to all its other endeavors.

The ten A&E Threads of Sustainability are:

• Global Carbon Footprint

• Water Conservation and Recycling

• Energy Conservation

• Sustainable Packaging

• Recycling and Waste Reduction

• Sustainable Products

• Global Environmental, Health and Safety and Social Responsibility

• Eco-Driven™ Product Stewardship

• Eco-Driven™ Education and Involvement

Directly in line with Thread # 1, Global Carbon Footprint, A&E has launched a paperless invoicing program currently available to its United States customers. By making this service available, A&E believes its customers can assist with reducing the energy demand and C02 generation created by transporting printed invoice statements via regular mail. Having invoices transmitted electronically also helps to ensure the shipment accuracy and to expedite the receiving process. Contact your A&E representative at 1-800-861-3256 to enroll your company in paperless invoicing.

A&E currently recycles 91% of the waste that is generated at all its plants in the United States. The company’s global goal is to have zero landfill waste while also improving energy efficiency by 20% by 2012. Several projects are underway on a global basis in order to achieve this goal.

Given the obligation to Eco-Driven™ practices, it is no surprise that A&E has received numerous awards and accolades for its global sustainability since 2003. Most recently, A&E was named one of the best environmentally friendly enterprises by the Environmental Protection Bureau for its Dongguan Dongmei Thread Manufacturing Company in China.
