What goes around comes around and what was once new doesn’t have to become waste
Greensboro, NC (September, 24, 2019) – Burlington is excited to showcase its Restora™ collection of sustainable fabrics at the Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics Show September 25-27.
Burlington’s Restora collection features eco-conscious fabrics made from a range of innovative and industry leading recycled content, solidifying Burlington’s commitment to sustainable innovations and responsible manufacturing. Burlington Labs R&D incubator remains committed to delivering sustainable innovations that drive performance by partnering with newer innovators of recycled and sustainable content, CICLO®, Eco Circle™ and Seaqual™, and longstanding partner REPREVE®.
“For the past three years we have continued to expand our Restora Collection across Burlington Performance Apparel,” says Allen Smith, President Burlington. “We continue to push the limits for our customers and our environment each day. Our goal is to maximize our sustainable product offerings in all new fabric developments through the use of innovative fibers and chemical technologies. We carry our commitment throughout our development and manufacturing processes to provide innovative bluesign approved fabrics that minimize our environmental impact.
Smith continued, “Burlington operates as part of the Elevate Textiles portfolio of distinguished brands, and we are excited to take the next step in adopting the Elevate Textiles Sustainability Commitments announced this week during the Shanghai show. We embrace the challenge to achieve specific environmental targets by 2025 as we continue to be a valued sustainability partner to our customers.”
Allen Smith will be participating in the Intertextile’s 2020 Sustainability Garment Supply Chain Symposium and panel discussion on September 25th, along with Jimmy Summers, Elevate Textiles Vice President Environmental, Health, Safety & Sustainability.
CiCLO is produced by Intrinsic Textile Group and is a patent pending textile technology that reduces synthetic microfiber pollution caused by washing, and minimizes plastic accumulation in landfills due to discarding. Eco Circle™ fibers, powered by Teijin, use a closed loop recycling system to give new life to old polyester based garments with a process that separates and eliminates both additives and colorants and purifies the recycled polyester to its original quality and function. In an exciting move towards recycled marine plastics, Seaqual™ fibers are made from 100 percent post-consumer plastic bottles and plastic waste reclaimed from the Mediterranean Sea, creating yarns that contain about 93 to 95 percent recycled PET and 3 to 7 percent ocean plastics.
