A&E’s New REPREVE® Recycled Sewing Thread Targets Footwear and Non-Apparel Applications

MOUNT HOLLY, NC (May 22, 2018) – American & Efird (A&E), the world’s foremost manufacturer and distributor of industrial and consumer sewing thread, embroidery thread and technical textiles, released Anefil Poly® using REPREVE®. Incorporating REPREVE fiber made from recycled drinking bottles, and available in a comprehensive color range, this sustainable, continuous-filament, polyester sewing thread provides manufacturers, brands, and retailers the ability to complete their respective non-apparel sustainability stories with the manufacturing of environmentally, responsible products.

“A&E recognized the lack of options for an eco-friendly, performance sewing thread,” said Chris Alt, Senior Vice President Sales. “A&E’s new Anefil Poly using REPREVE fills the need for sustainable sewing thread within a number of market segments including footwear, automotive, and outdoor products.”

Available in a wide range of color possibilities, this new eco-friendly thread product is ideal for the sewing of everything from automotive and footwear applications to luggage and handbags.

In addition to Anefil Poly using REPREVE, A&E has also formally introduced two new, innovative product offerings this month. The first is REPEL, a water repellency option for every sewing and embroidery thread, and specialty yarn A&E produces. The second, introduces a smaller thread size of Anefil™ Reflector, A&E’s reflective sewing thread, for sewing in embroidery applications.

Commitment to sustainability is an important and ongoing goal of A&E, and its latest achievements were recently detailed in its annual sustainability report. Some of these achievements include a 48% reduction of global water usage since 2006, 16 global manufacturing operations and support facilities reaching 100% Zero-Waste-to-Landfill status, and an 11% reduction of global carbon footprint since 2006.
